Samsung Galaxy A55 Leaks Continue as Launch Nears

Are you still amazed that we’re starting another week with lots of news about the new Samsung Galaxy A55? This mid-range phone keeps appearing online more and more, and now it’s even listed on Samsung’s official website.
Samsung’s Portuguese online portal has gone live with official support pages for the upcoming Galaxy A55. While light on specific details, the pages reveal the phone’s model number (SM-556B) and confirm that 128GB and 256GB storage options will be available for buyers in Europe.
The appearance of these support pages is the latest sign that the Galaxy A55’s launch could be just weeks away. Samsung typically unveils new A-series and F-series devices in mid-to-late March, following the annual flagship Galaxy S reveal a month or two prior. Last year’s Galaxy A54 debuted in mid-March as well.
We’ve also recently seen official case renders for the A55 leak, as well as live photos showcasing the phone’s distinctive “Key Island” design language spotted on Chinese regulator TENAA‘s website.
Galaxy A55 Design Borrows from Flagship
Based on these leaks, the Galaxy A55 will feature a flat back panel and display reminiscent of the latest Galaxy S flagships. However, it differentiates itself with a triple camera array housed in three separate circular cutouts, as well as a centered hole-punch cutout for the selfie cam.
The most distinctive element is the “Key Island” protruding section around the side power button and volume keys, giving the A55 a unique mid-range design for 2024.
Exynos 1480 and AMD GPU Aboard
Under the hood, early benchmarks point to the Galaxy A55 running on Samsung’s new Exynos 1480 chip. This would make it Samsung’s first chip to feature an AMD RDNA 2 GPU, potentially providing a nice boost for mobile gaming performance compared to past Exynos chips.
However, the Exynos 1480’s CPU performance doesn’t appear to be a massive upgrade over the Galaxy A54’s underwhelming processor. That device suffered from sluggish UI performance and app launch times. While the AMD graphics may help game performance, it’s unclear if Samsung’s new chip will provide a smoother, snappier overall user experience.
The Galaxy A55’s benchmark entry also confirms 8GB RAM for the device, though lower RAM options will likely be available as well.
Expect Launch in March or Later
There’s still no word on when exactly Samsung plans to launch the Galaxy A55. However, based on the company’s typical cadence of releasing new A/F series models in March after the late February flagship S-series debuts, we likely won’t see the A55 arrive until at least late March at the earliest.
Samsung will surely want to give the Galaxy S24 lineup its time in the spotlight first before unveiling new mid-range and affordable devices for 2024. The timing would line up with last year’s Galaxy A54 launch in mid-March as well.
With leaks heating up and official support pages now live, it seems the Galaxy A55’s release is imminent. Samsung’s affordable lineup continues to gain steam, promising impressive performance and premium designs at more accessible price points.
